These video resources have been made to help guide Christians through difficult areas of mental health. At present we have a series on Understanding Anxiety and one exploring the topic of Loneliness. Each series comprises of 3 seperate videos with accompanying questions to aid reflection and dicussion. They can be used by individuals or in groups.

Understanding Anxiety

This is a 3 part series seeking to understand anxiety from a Christian perspective and give practical insight for those journeying alongside anxious people.

Discussion Questions – The Problem

  1. How would you define anxiety from your experience?
  2. What are you most tempted to become anxious about it your life? What unanswered questions do you have about the future?
  3. Where might your heart be captivated by fear?
  4. How are you battling to control whatever you’re anxious about?
  5. In what way are you uncomfortable with your own weakness?
  6. Who or what are you trusting instead of God for your future?

Discussion Questions – The Perspective

  1. What thoughts come to mind when you think of supporting someone through anxiety?
  2. If you struggle with anxiety, how do you feel people view you?
  3. All believers are sinners, sufferers, and saints. Which one of these is easiest for you to see an anxious person as? Which one do you find most diffcult to view an anxious person as?
  4. How can seeing an anxious person through the saint lens help you support and understand them in a more compassionate way?
  5. What were you last anxious about? What was the good concern underneath the anxiety? In what ways did that concern get twisted or manipulated?
  6. What unique point of view does the anxious person in your life have? How can you learn from and be inspired by that?

Discussion Questions – The Practical

  1. What are some of the obstacles in the way of the anxious person in your life (whether it’s you or someone else) accessing help and feeling supported?
  2. Phil 4:6-7 How does knowing that The Lord is near and God is in control help elivate anxiety?
  3. What kind of questions are helpful to ask people struggling with anxiety?
  4. Matt 11:28-29 How can your church cultivate an environment where weakness is welcome and Jesus’ invitation to the weary is on show?
  5. When you’ve been anxious, what has been the biggest help and support?
  6. Moving forward, how will you change the way you understand, view and help anxious people in future?

Loneliness

This is a 3 part series helping to tackle the struggles of loneliness.

Discussion Questions – Loneliness & the Word of God

  1. What situations have you been in that have left you feeling lonely?
  2. What ways has church family and your relationship with God helped in your loneliness?
  3. Where do you see the fall’s influence in broken connections with God and with others?
  4. How can Simon Peter’s words in John 6:67-69 help us when we’re struggling?
  5. How does Hebrews 4: 15 bring us comfort and hope in our loneliness?

Discussion questions – Lamenting our loneliness

  1. When you feel lonely, what do you turn to for comfort?
  2. In what ways do you share your loneliness with others and God?
  3. How are you tempted to dwell on your struggles to the point of despair or self-pity?
    Read Psalm 31
  4. What would it look like for you to bring your lament to God like David?
  5. How do you think bringing our lament to God will improve our feelings of loneliness?

Discussion questions – Loneliness and walking with God

  1. Where are you tempted to lose sight of the blessings around you?
  2. In your loneliness, what is your heart craving instead of God?
  3. What lies or manipulation of the truth are you believing in your heart?
  4. Where do you turn to for comfort rather than God?
  5. What practical small ways can you set your mind on Christ in your daily life?
  6. Whether you feel lonely or not, how can you create community and connection with those around you?
